RoMo: Avoiding Conflicts Between the Physical and Digital Model in Tabletop Interfaces with Robotic Tangibles
نویسنده
چکیده
In TUIs, physical/digital conflicts can occur when the digital model does not match the model implied by the spatial layout of tangibles. We show how tangible tabletop interfaces (TTI) can be modified to allow robot movement of tangibles, thereby avoiding conflicts. We present RoMo, an open source Java library that allow existing TTI applications to perform robot movement, and demonstrate its functionality with three applications. Author

Beyond Actuated Tangibles: Introducing Robots to Interactive Tabletops
Tangible user interfaces (TUIs) have been shown to support interaction on tabletops and interactive surfaces. We propose integrating robots as interactive partners in tabletop interfaces. We suggest a continuum of physical interfaces on interactive tabletops, starting from static tabletop TUIs, progressing to actuated TUIs and ending with small social tabletop robots that provide an engaging, p...
متن کاملOn the Tabletop: Tangibles for Creative Problem Solving and Learning
The objective behind Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs) is to allow users to interact with computers through familiar tangible objects, thereby taking advantage of the richness of the tactile world combined with the power of computer-based simulations. TUIs “give physical form to digital information, employing physical artifacts both as representations and controls for computational media” [1]. Th...
متن کاملOn stage: the reactable and other musical tangibles go real
This paper explores one of the application domains in which tangible and tabletop interfaces have currently shown more positive results, studying and unveiling the essential reasons that turn live music performance and tabletop interaction into promising and exiting fields of multi-disciplinary research and experimentation. The paper is structured in three parts. The first one exposes the main ...
متن کاملAn Affordable Robotic Arm Design for Manipulation in Tabletop Clutter
In this study, tabletop object manipulation in a cluttered environment using a robotic manipulator is considered. Our focus is on avoiding or manipulating other obstructions/objects to achive the given task. We propose an affordable robotic manipulator design with five degrees of freedom where the gripper constitutes one additional degree of freedom. The manipulator has approximately the same l...
متن کاملThe Design of a Tangible User Interface for a Real-Time Strategy Game
Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs) allow interaction with computer applications using physical objects called tangibles. TUIs have a number of latent advantages over traditional user interfaces including spatial naturalness and immediate haptic feedback where users receive both tactile and digital responses from computer systems. This paper presents the preliminary design and test results of a tab...
